Laughing Gentleman

Elder Beal,
Callings in the church allow us to grow and serve in ways that will always help us in our process of becoming more like our Savior. Joseph Smith said, "The Lord calls us in our weakness, but He qualifies us in His work."  As you heed the rules of the mission and gently encourage those whom you have stewardship over to be obedient, I have no doubt of the success your district can have in becoming men of God, Stripling Warriors, fighting a real battle.  The 'sons of Helaman' chose him to be their leader because he always looked to God first in all things.  Captain Moroni, Helaman, and the sons of Mosiah always prepared the Nephites for battle by first preparing their spiritual fortifications, then the physical.  Their battles and ours can only be won when the Lord is foremost on our minds.  Only through strict obedience to our Heavenly Father commandments can we avoid the pain and suffering that is a direct consequence of being separated from the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost has many responsibilities. He is the conduit of truth from Heaven to us.  Through Him we can know of a surety of the love of God and Jesus Christ for us. In Him we can feel the peace that only the Savior can provide both from sin and error of our own making and that which is thrust upon us by the choices of others whom have used their agency. Always strive to be worthy to have the Holy Ghost as your constant companion and you cannot fail. Repentance, often mistaken as a punishment for sin, is really not that at all but, a gift to heal our soul and reunite us with our Heavenly Father.  I am so very grateful for the cleansing power in the weekly ordinance of the Sacrament.  Daily repentance is such a gift to me. Recognizing my own weakness, helps me to be more empathetic with others and brings me closer to my Savior to help me turn my weaknesses into strengths.  This is not an overnight process for me, thankfully, I have a lifetime ahead of me.
A quick update on the family:
Dad is on his big adventure ride in Southern Utah.  In the picture he is in front of the St. George temple.  I have never been there myself, but now I can't wait to go inside with dad someday.  It is so beautiful. He also sent the tarantula picture, more for Malachi than anything else.  This summer he has taken an aversion to spiders, it is somewhat comical to dad and I, as he will flee from harmless spiders yet daily attack the bees, wasps, and hornets that adorn our home.
The other two pictures are of his paint war birthday party. Nauvoo is on the JV volleyball team.  Camilla is trying to finalize which online program to complete her HS career and is trying to determine which college to attend.  Sariah signed up for the Pathways program through BYUI. Donavaghn returned home from his mission on Wednesday.  He looks great, I am looking forward to visiting with him to learn more about his mission. I returned to work. I will be taking a class about Pakistan this semester and have started reading the book titled 'I am Malala'  so far it is quite the eye-opener for me of the laws and lack of freedom some other countries have.  I am most impressed with her courage to stand for truth. She has not allowed her trial or fear to paralyze her, but rather use it as a catalyst or platform to better the world. Each of us have the power to make this world a better place for having lived in it.  Let us live that this may be said of us.

I love you forever and always,
Mom

Hey sweet Mom,

This week I've been really trying to be obedient and trying to listen to the spirit especially about this new district. Personal revelation is something that I love to try to receive, yet sometimes I have to remind myself to have patience with the lord and to do what he would have me do.  I'm trying to follow his example and to to show the love that he has given me to others I have realized that having the constant companionship of the holy ghost other people can feel it and that is why they choose to follow Christ. This week in a lesson I asked a Dominican woman if she would follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized after receiving answer from God. She said yes, after that I asked her how she think she will know if it's from Holy Ghost and she said if she felt Gozo or happiness from God and then she said that she's felt it before and I asked her when and she said when you were saying the first vision. I know that the lord prepares people to be ready and willing to follow his son Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost is the teacher and I am the instrument. I'm thankful for the blessings that God has done through us and that makes me want to be better so when the time come and someone's ready I can know that they are going to accept Jesus and his teaching.
 I love you muchísimo,
Moroni.

The Shepherd-Psalm 23

Elder Beal,
I return to work tomorrow, but this final week was packed. We enjoyed a picnic in the park with the Judd's and Jarvie's. Jodi took pictures on Amber's phone. I'm sure Karlita will send you one. Went on splits with the sisters twice this week. Once, a no show, second time we watched the hour long movie about the restoration. I love and learn something new each time I see it. The temple is that way too!
Dad and I celebrated 21 years on Friday. The tradition of going to the temple as close to our anniversary as possible continues. It was so lovely and we were invited to be the witness couple which made it all the more sweet. Again, I came out with more questions to study and ponder. Afterwards, my parents took us out to Red Lobster where Malachi ordered an enormous meal!
Yesterday, a couple was baptized in our ward. It was so neat to see 20+ members of their family present to witness this ordinance, even though it was not their faith. Their son wants to be baptized by his dad so he is waiting a few weeks for him to receive the priesthood. Really great family!
Tuesday Malachi will turn 11!!!
Donavaghn comes home on Wednesday, time is flying right by!  Your year mark is right around the corner!!
Dad made this super cool Tim Allen style scrubber for me. I feel like I have superhero powers in cleaning the tub, shower, and toilets now. It's awesome!
I included a picture of the Portland temple from LDS.org. Dad and I were sealed for time and all eternity there 20 years ago today. I was expecting you, Christian was being sealed to us and as we were walking up the stairs inside the temple to the sealing room, he saw a picture of Angel Moroni when he appeared to Joseph Smith on Hill Comorah with the Golden Plates, he looked at the picture then up to my eyes and said fervently while placing his hand on my belly, "Mom this is a boy, and his name is Moroni."
Always live worthy to enter the temple and no blessing Heavenly Father has for you will be withheld.
I love you,
Mom

Hey sweet Momma,
This week has been a long and big week it was a new transfer and my companion Elder Lords left, last night actually. We stayed up til 1 getting his things together so I'm kinda tired. He is going to the islands, which I'm jealous of, to be a Zone leader. I'm going to pick up my new companion today, from Madrid. He's got about 7 months in and his name is Elder Walker. He seems like a good kid and I'm excited to be with him. And I got a new calling. Practically every one here is new so I think that we're going to have some fun. You and Dad look so good together, I'm so happy that you guys have done everything according to God's will so that we can be together forever. I miss you all a lot and I won't believe how fast the time will fly when I'm walking through the that airport terminal to see you all again. I love you guys so much.
Moroni

"I once heard President Hugh B. Brown relate this inspiring story: Sometime ago a great actor in the city of New York gave a wonderful performance in a large theatre, at the close of which there were rounds of applause. He was called back again and again. Finally someone called to him, “Would you do for us the Twenty-third Psalm?      “Why, yes. I know the Twenty-third Psalm.”
He recited it as an actor would, perfectly, with nothing left to be desired as far as a performance was concerned. When he was finished, again there was thunderous applause. Then the actor came to the front of the stage and said: “Ladies and gentlemen, there is an old man sitting here on the front row whom I happen to know. I am going to ask him without any notice if he will come and repeat the Twenty-third Psalm.”
The elderly gentleman, of course, was frightened. Trembling, he came to the stage. Fearfully he looked out over the vast audience. Then, as though he were at home only with one, he closed his eyes against the audience, bowed his head, and talked to God, and said:
“The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
Then changing to address the Savior directly and intimately:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil: my cup runneth over.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” [Ps. 23:1–6]
When the old man finished, there was no applause, but there was not a dry eye in that house. The actor came to the front of the stage. He, too, was wiping his eyes. And he said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I know the words of the Twenty-third Psalm, but this man knows the Shepherd.”

I want to come to know the savior more and more in my life and I know if at least we try, we can and will know him. I love y'all.

Matthew Chapter 25

Elder Beal,
I have had the worst email trouble lately, I am hoping you got my email last week! Know that I love you and am proud of you! Malachi and I picked blackberries and made jam. Super delish! We are so blessed to have them growing wild and roadside all over Southern Oregon. Is there anything native that grows all over Spain?
Sariah bought a bike this summer, it is tres chic and turquoise. Totally adorable. Anyway, her and Malachi have been going on nightly rides. One night this week might have been a bit too dark so that he didn't see a big rock in his path, the end result being that the handlebars left their mark on his torso. He is tough stuff!
This is my final week of summer vacation:( The kids have a few more weeks, lucky ducks! Hopefully, we will have a get together with Karlita's family in the next few days. She is home this week. It was wonderful to see her at church today, her smile is so bright and lovely.
I have REALLY enjoyed studying Alma 36-40 the past few weeks. The father blessings, admonitions, and teaching moments he shares with his boys are so tender and yet a very powerful discourse on the gospel.
Our Savior is central to God's plan. There is no other way. I was able to go out with the Sister missionaries twice this week to assist with lessons. It is always great to bear testimony of His love for us individually. Of course some are more prepared to hear it than others. Do members of your ward attend lessons with you sometimes?
Dad and I will celebrate 21 years this Friday. Can you believe he has put up with me for so long? ;) I must be the luckiest girl ever!  I love you and continually pray for your work.
Love,
Mom

Hey Mom,
Malachi's scars remind me of when I was a little kid and of all the times I wrecked on my bike. It's funny how small things like that bring me back. In my eyes Malachi has always been a tough kid, growing up with three older sisters is a battle, he has always followed me in whatever I did. Back then I wasn't that example worth following. I hope that he can forget that old Moroni and follow the new. I now know that the only thing that I want in life is the next, with my family and friends. The Devil steals the hearts of a lot of people in this world and they don't even know it, I didn't even know it. Thank you mom for showing me the way, and for always having a firm testimony in the gospel, you and dad have saved my life. This week I was reading in the institute book for the New Testament and I felt strongly to study Mathew chapter 25 about the parables of the 10 Virgins, the Talents and the Sheep and the Goats. It was really good and I really liked this.
Consider the three parables found in Matthew chapter 25. How does each of the following help us prepare to meet the Lord? (1) Doing things that invite the Holy Spirit into our lives. (2) Doing good with the gifts and opportunities the Lord has given us. (3) Caring for those around us who are in need.
In those three simple steps we can live the gospel and be prepared to meet Jesus Christ at that final day and and he will greet us and call us blessed. (Enos 1: 27)
This week has been awesome and I have been really thinking about home I love you and the family. I hope you enjoy your last last couple weeks of summer.

Flood and Food

Elder Beal,
I too, love listening to conference talks. Always, it feels like the perfect wisdom I need at that very moment.  Holland bears a powerful witness of the ministry of angels and I can add my testimony to his.  Do you recall the testimony of President Charles on Trek about angels?  That was my first real eye opener about them.  Yesterday was fast and testimony meeting.  The spirit is so wonderful when the saints bear witness of truth.  Simple testimonies of faith and obedience bring such power to the congregation.  We have a few investigators in our ward right now.  It is always exciting to feel the newness of the restored gospel through an investigators perspective.
I have been accepted to BYU Idaho online.  I am really thrilled!  Sometimes, I allow Satan to creep into my mind and whisper doubts of discouragement about continuing my education, but always Heavenly Father has a way of kicking him out and reassuring me that this is the right course of action.  Just yesterday in RS, Sister Kidd, one of sister Marshall's twin daughters, shared with the group that the prophet and apostles often invite professors to come and instruct the group.  This reminded me so much of the school of the prophets.  We were just there in the very room that Joseph held this sacred class of instruction of things both spiritual and academic.  Candi's husband's uncle is a professor of Astronomy at BYU and was one of those whom the apostles called in to teach them. How cool is that?

I love your hair-cutting speed video!  It makes me happy!  Guess what fun you are missing out on right now?  Pears!!!  Hanging from the platform, while some inexperienced driver weaves side to side in the endless rows of pears causing the trees to whack and scratch every appendage of your body at speeds never intended for their branches to move.  Limbs (of the trees, not the pickers;) cracking and snapping in anguish as we ruthlessly pluck every last one of its precious fruits to fill bin after bin. The fruit it has so tenderly and faithfully prepared to give nourishment to one humble benefactor filled with gratitude for its sweet juiciness. One week down one to go.  :)

You and your companion are nourishing and picking a fruit of a greater harvest.  Keep up the good work, remain faithful and obedient.  Happiness will be yours.

I love you,
Mom
Pictures:
The top one is glass projects we made in Grants Pass, super cool! Next is home sweet home after our month long road trip. A quick snap of SLC temple, where my family was sealed together in Nay of 1985, and last a truck full of antlers, only in the Wild West !

Hey Mom,
Today was a really good day, we went to a place called Aviles and we hung out with the elders there, we made cow tongue and rice, it was super good.
After that we came back here and now I'm writing you. Yesterday I found out that I have a crush from one of the 11 year old kids in our branch, which is really funny. Also this week while I was contacting and some 20 year old asked my if I smoke weed! I told him I didn't and he turned around and left. A gay guy called me handsome, a drunk girl in the street gave me besos. And then just left, she didn't want nothing, the church had a big leak. I been thinking about you and Dad and the family, I'm so glad that I can be with y'all forever this life is really a plan of happiness. I'm thankful for the atonement of Jesus Christ, and for the opportunity that God has given me to repent of my sins and become better. I have noticed a lot of opposition here in Spain and Lucifer is doing his best to bring me down through sin. The atonement hasn't meant more to me while I've been here than in my whole life. And I now understand why missionaries come home changed, or with a purpose, and that purpose is to do the very best you can so you can obtain exaltation with your family and God forever. That's the return missionary attitude that I want. I love you mom and I'm so glad that you and Dad are there for me. I love you guys.
Moroni.

Ministering of Angels

Us moms take our letters to our missionary sons very seriously.  It would take us being in a coma before we would skip a week.  Your mom (who, for the record, I love dearly and think is the most amazing woman on this earth) has been trying to e-mail your letter for the last hour without success (internet difficulties).  So, because she knows how much I love her and would do anything for her, she has asked me if I would send you her letter.  Which also gives me a chance to (FINALLY) tell you how proud I am of you and how much I have enjoyed reading your letters each week.  I'm so happy that you have this amazing opportunity to serve the people of Spain.  Donavaghn comes home in 24 days (but who's counting?).  We are all doing good here and keeping busy.  The pear farm is up in full swing and everyone is picking like crazy.  Sadly, it's been about 104 degrees for the last few days.  Luckily, we are starting to cool down to the 90's.  It sounds like your mom has enjoyed her trip, but I'm DEFINITELY ready for her to come home now.  I've really missed her.  Have a fabulous week and know how much we love you!!!   -Jodi Jarvie

Elder Beal,
It makes me happy to hear that you love your mission President and his wife.  It is easier to obey when you love those who execute commands.  Those are great goals you and your companion have. S.M.A.R.T. goals will provide the greatest opportunity for success.

We spent 4 days in Nauvoo this week.  The main goal at the time the Saints lived there was to build a temple worthy of the Lord so they might enjoy the Eternal Blessings of the Priesthood performed within its walls.  Their enormous sacrifice always astounds me.  That type of faith and level of conversion is admirable.  I recognize we battle different enemies than they did and our sacrifices are different than theirs but we all place our faith in the same Lord and our strength comes from him.
Quick update:  No dad hasn't bought or sold any motorcycles, yet.  As much as he talks and researches it, I know it won't be long.  :)
Sariah is single and trying to straighten out her life.  She is still working full time at Walmart and is considering the Pathway Program through BYUI.
Camilla's clocking in tons of hours at Subway and doing mini road trips with her friends on her days off.
Nauvoo, Malachi and I will be home this week.  We saw a lot, but there is so much more to see and do!  The city of Nauvoo was the highlight of our week and a really great addition to our trip as we didn't originally plan on going there.  We went because the heat index was way too high in the Deep South.  Turned out to be a rich blessing.
I love you!
Love,
Mom
Hey MORONI, missing you a ton!  I've been reflecting a lot lately on my children and I'm so proud that you decided to go on a mission and choose the right.  It was probably quite a sacrifice for you to do it, but I'm sure now you realized that it was the best option.  I'm proud to say that my son has fulfilled another commitment that he made with his heavenly father and probably plans to fulfill many others know that he is serving a mission.  I'm a proud poppa.
As you know already, mom Malachi and Nauvoo have been gone for about a month, Sariah, Camilla and I have been fending for ourselves, but it's been fun.  The girls of been working a lot, and trying to save money for their future . Life is generally the same home, things don't change a whole lot, but we're happy. I've been somewhat busy with my calling in the stake young men's presidency. This week I have two camps I have to go to for the young man, and I've also been busy fulfilling my assignments in the pear farm.
After this week I'll be preparing to go for an adventure motorcycle ride around Southern Utah, will be riding about 1400 miles.  When I get back I'm thinking about selling my motorcycle and buying a different one that's a little bit lighter weight, but that's a hard decision because I love my motorcycle now. At work I've been estimating full time and it's really busy, but I really like my job and I hope it doesn't end. I pray for you every day that you have the spirit to be with you and that you're able to be obedient to find those who are looking for the gospel. Many times I think about you searching in working hard and I wish that I could be there with you to experience part of it. I'm proud to tell my friends that you're serving a mission in Spain.
MORONI, continue to do a good work and keep forgetting about yourself, because the Lord will take care of you once you get home. Again, I miss you tons and hope to talk to you again soon I love you with all my heart dad.

Hey Momma!
Don’t worry, I got your email and I saw the photos for just a quick second and then they left. But it's alright. This week always really good it was rainy and kinda gloomy, but it was still good. I did buy new shoes, they were like 90€ they are Clarks. I'll take a picture of them next week I'm still trying to make these shoes that I have last the rest of the way of my mission but I'm only going to wear them on sunny days, plus they're super comfortable because they're worn in. My companion and I have been listening to conference talks every night, I love it. I like to listen to Elder Holland because he talks a lot about hope and Faith. And as a Missionary those two things are hand in hand. During a missionary's mission he will have ups and downs. Sometimes you get comfortable and at times a little lazy or in a rut. But the lord is there to help us change and to be better. He is like that wench that gets stuck trucks moving, until they reach the top. I really enjoy doing strange things that we do to help the companionship, I also think that talking things out helps a lot even though sometimes it's weird. Today is a beautiful sunny day and I'm really enjoying my time here in Gijon. Anyways here's the talk that we listened to today. Jeffery R. Holland October 2008 The Ministry of Angels.
I love you Mom,
Moroni.
