New Companion

Elder Beal,
I hope this week finds you feeling healthier than last week.  This was a very busy week here. Camilla went up on Monday with Jaden to Tokettee Falls and swam in the freezing cold water. Collin stayed with us while he was visiting friends in Oregon. It is always a pleasure to have him around. Camilla and Malachi went with him to Tokettee the next day to hike a few falls and enjoy the hot springs.  Malachi was playing real live fruit slice Tuesday night and we ended up in the ER for several hours, in fact it was one hour for each of his five stitches. Most of it was just waiting, 10-15 minutes was with the doctor. Thankfully, it appears he did not lose any movement ligament function or major nerve damage. On Thursday, Nauvoo passed her drivers permit knowledge test without missing any! I feel safe and relaxed in the car when she drives. Friday night your dad and his friends went motorcycle riding. They sure see some beautiful places in our valley! Saturday was EP prom, Sariah and Nauvoo went with a group and had a great time. They each looked stunning. Today I was released as Primary President. I feel at home in primary, I guess it is time for me to grow. I am one of the new Gospel Doctrine teachers. Also my final semester of Pathway through BYU-I started.

How is the sister you invited to baptism doing? Life altering decisions can be difficult to navigate. I am glad you and Elder Boyd get along so well. Sister Dabel sent me some pictures of Jared for you, but I am still working on getting some of Rick. I sent him the last batch of pictures you sent and he is glad to see your doing well and flabbergasted at how quickly his two years are dwindling down to nothing. He left on Sariah's birthday, so that leaves him with six short months.
I love you and am really looking forward to visiting on Mother's Day. Your financial clerk has the needed proof of payment and said you would be issued a new iPad. Do you know the details of our visit? Skype or FaceTime? Saturday or Sunday? Time? I am super excited!

 Hey Mom,

This week has been really good and bad, Fuerte has been really good but pretty hot. We had transfers this week and Elder Boyd got transferred to Vigo; my first area! He is a Zone Leader there now, because my dad in the mission, Elder Howard died. (That is missionary lingo for -He honorably returned home after serving his full two-years in Spain) Elder Boyd is one of my favorite companions and I'm gonna miss him. Anyways I am getting a new companion from Madrid and he will bring me my new iPad. I will send you a ton of photos next week and a long message! I love you guys and Malachi is crazy! I miss you guys a lot. And I will be FaceTiming y'all! but I don;t know when, but we will.

Invitation to baptism

  Hola Sweet Mama! 

This week has been pretty good! I got pretty sick the past two days though. But I'll get healthy soon! I have had a lot of fun this week transfer with my companion Elder Boyd! Its going to be hard to find another Elder like him, that loves Psych. Hopefully, we stay together for a while longer. Today I finally found my Micro Chip, so I will be sending some more photos! We did some splits the other day with some of the members, and I got the chance to ask one of our investigators to be baptized and she accepted. So hopefully she will keep it. I love the members here they are some of the best I've met. We are only a Rama here but someday we will be a ward. I love the weather here it is so amazing to see sunny days every day. It's crazy being on a mission because the time flies, I don't know if its the same at home but I have almost seven months here! Loco. I miss everyone, all the the people in the ward and the family. I hope no one moves while I'm here! I send my love to everyone and I'm grateful for them! I love you mom and I am so exited to see your beautiful face!  I have been thinking about Gavin and Rick lately, its been a long time since we've been camping together and I hope that there doing good. I love you Mom and Ill see you in a bit.

Elder Beal,
Right after church today I sent you a nice email with a couple of videos. Just now when I sent the request from Bishop I saw that my letter from earlier is not in my sent box or my drafts! I will do my best to recall what I shared.

Today Bishop asked me to update the ward on your mission. The ward family loves to hear about the people you serve and how you are growing in the gospel. Thank you for sharing your interactions with people and your experiences with us. I am thrilled to hear that after six months in the field ringing timbres, someone opened their door to you. I am more impressed that you keep on ringing. Don't ever stop. I am so grateful to have the gospel in my life and the knowledge that my family is eternally connected through the power of the priesthood in a temple of God. That would not be possible if Missioneros serving in my are way back in 1985 chose to stop. Now I know they had the assistance of a ward family who befriended mine and that is an essential part of a successful conversion to Christ so I pray your ward or branch will reach out to their friends and help connect them to you and your companion so that you can assist in connecting them to Christ.

Your dad gave a nice talk in the White City ward today. He started it off by making a correlation from Malachi's soccer game on Saturday, which they won 5-2. He sent you a copy in a separate email.  We went up to Elderberry Flats earlier this week for an evening of roasting dogs, mallows, and banana boats. It was so lovely to escape the daily grind for a few hours and reconnect with God's great creation we call Earth.

Today my parents celebrate their 44th anniversary. Your dad made some fantastic steaks on the Treager and we had lemon bars for dessert. It is also my grandmas birthday today. She turned 85!

I can't remember what else I updated you on in the first email. I know it didn't like that I was sending two videos so I will send them separately this time. I love you and am so proud of you. I am thrilled that you are reading the Book of Mormon in Spanish now. Certainly that can be tough to learn a new language. I have no doubt whatsoever that when you bear testimony of Christ with the power of the Holy Ghost that it doesn't matter the language as he will place words in your mouth and the listener who is ready will feel the prick and piercings of it in their heart. Keep up the good work, keep us posted on your happenings.  I hold my breath each week to get your emails. I love you!

Elder Beal,

It seems so amazing to me that 6 months have passed since you left!  You are accomplishing great things and much is happening in your life, but it feels like the same ol, same ol stuff here. Let me think for a minute I know there has been some excitement! The barn at the back of the Ogle's property caught fire.  It is the one you can see from the back of the high school.  Thankfully, they did not have anything in it and it was far enough from their house to not have been a threat to their family.  Unfortunately, the owner whom they rent from lost a lot of her stuff in it. 

Brother Shultz joined dad, Jeff, and Erik this Saturday on an afternoon ride.  I included those pictures for you. 

Malachi had his first soccer game of the season and he mowed the whole front yard by himself.

Subway is working Camilla some crazy long hours, she is getting 45+ hours each week!  

Sariah and Nauvoo are killing it on the golf course, both of them taking first place and breaking their PR.  My mom is one of the assistant volunteer coaches this year.

I only got one math problem wrong on my final exam for math, one week off then writing begins with a new semester.

Christian and Aleesha put an offer on a house to buy in Texas, I included a picture of it.  I am super excited for them!

Hey Madre!

This week was really good! We've taught a lot of people. We have really good goals, but sometimes we can't complete them. We have been doing some tracting this week and we actually have had some really good luck! We ringed a timbre and someone just let us in, she was studying with the Jehovah Witnesses (Testigos), anyways during the lesson she said to us, you're kind of convincing me! Today we are going too play Futól and I'm really excited. Elder Boyd is from Washington but he moved to Utah when he was young. I love you Mom and I'm really excited to see you on Mothers Day!  I cant wait to go on trips with dad after the mission. And Scrap Book with you too. Tell the Family that I love them and the ward too! I Love you and I'll send you lots of Fotos next week!

Hey Dad,

Here are The Donaldson Papers, we are using them here in FuerteVentura to teach by. Honestly, this is the best thing that a Missionary and a Future Missionary can use. Read it when you get a chance. Share this with the Young Men so that they can ACTUALLY prepare for their Missions. Also, Reading Preach my Gospel and The Book of Mormon are some of the smartest things that they can do, I regret not doing it more thoroughly, and it was hard to go on a mission without having that true individual Knowledge and Testimony. Thanks for the example you set for me! by the way I've finished it in English and now I'm struggling through it in Spanish.

General Conference

  Hola la mejor Mama en el Mundo!

I really enjoyed General Conference this week it was really spiritual, plus it was in English! There were some Amazing  talks. I took to heart the one by Elder Holland! It`s really good to know that God is always on our side and will forgive us freely! I really liked the talk that Elder Uchtdorf gave about the Family and it reminds me how much I miss mine!

   

      Fuerte Ventura is Awesome! The people here are really down to earth and they are here to relax and have fun. The work is hard but the living is nice, this place is like southern California. Sometimes I wish that I went to a third world country but then I think how glad I am to have a cool Piso and a washer machine! Some loco dude stopped me in the street today and asked me some knotty questions! I told him off in Spanish that I'm waiting for marriage for those things! I love you Familia and I cant wait to see ya'll this Día de la Madre!

Dad and Malachi went camping Friday night and came back just in time to watch General Conference. They camped up at Elderberry Flats. Malachi cooked his own meal and learn how to set up his own hammock.  He'll be all ready when you come home. I know you used to camp there and have paintball wars with Rick and Gavin and Christian and Colton and Donavaghn and Emerson.  Goodtimes!

General Conference was wonderful! Dad tied flies while watching. I thought it was interesting that they pointed out that the savior was both a stepson and a refugee. Lots of people will be able to relate to that. I also loved the concept found in the scriptures about beauty from ashes when talking about the Provo City Temple. And also the restored church from Elder Uctdorf's homeland.

Semana Santa

   Hey Mama Bear

This week was really good but really busy. We had zone conference en an Island called La Gran Canaria and we were there for two days but after that we went to a different island for two days and did exchanges with the Elders there! that was rough but we had a montón of fun. Also we got to fly everywhere so that was awesome! I have now visited the 4 of the 7 Islands that are here, there are only 4 that have missionaries on them.  It was weird yesterday thinking of where ya'll were and what you were doing! I love Easter but it’s different here. We have a Semana Santa (Holy Week), it’s really just a time for Catholics to have days off of work but it’s alright. To me I don’t like Semaña Santa, because holidays here means that there is no one out and that missionary work is slow! But it is good we were gone half the week busy with other things. I miss y'all so much and I was excited to hear about Grandma Perez coming up! I love you all and I look forward to seeing every one in two Easters from now.

This week was spring break yay! My uncle Joe and aunt Dina brought Grandma up to visit, it was so nice to have her here and it was great for the girls to spend some time with Trina. They were able to stay for a few days my uncle Joe just had his knee replaced a couple weeks ago so we just stayed home mostly and relaxed. One day, I took grandma to see Zack and Sarah and Sarah's about to deliver a new baby boy so Augie will be a big brother probably this week. Because it was Easter week we would spend each evening reading different parts of the last week of the life of Christ from the New Testament. It was really wonderful to do that with my grandmother and the rest of the family. I included with my readings some of the wonderful videos the church has created about the Savior and Easter I love them! They're so much better than the old videos from the 70s. While grandma was here I asked her where Grandpa's family is from. The name of the city or area or region -I don't know what you call it, is called Seville, it's in southern Spain and it looks like it is not in your mission. I will keep researching and find if there is anybody in your mission from our family.
Camilla got her first job she's working at Subway in Walmart she started on Thursday and worked Thursday and Friday she has every Sunday off.
Sariah almost got a job at the South Walmart they're going to wait till she graduates if she doesn't have a job before then.
Nauvoo joined the golf team and apparently is pretty good at it. I'm not so sure that she loves that yet though.
Malachi has been practicing his magic tricks again. Today he won a dollar from grandpa doing a magic trick. But really it was Grandma that lost a dollar because Grandpa had to borrow it from grandma :-)
Thursday morning Jodi and I went to the temple and it was packed with Missionaries. We had no idea, as it is usually pretty slow on a Thursday morning. But it was cool for us to be in the temple with a bunch of Missionaries while our missionaries are out serving.
I think the girls sent you a video or two and maybe a photo from last year of us coloring Easter eggs.  My new friend Juanita was able to join us for Easter dinner, and taught us each a few more words in sign language. Sadly Grandma and Grandpa Brumble were not able to join us. Grandma hit her hand and it bruised up pretty bad. She had to have it lanced and drained. Today it felt like it might have an infection in there so she is taking it easy on Dr.'s orders. We also have the sister missionaries join us. It is fun to get to know them. One of them goes home in May, but she said she'd like to stay out longer. I suppose most missionaries would feel that way.

Did you choose not to get a new iPad or are they still struggling with the finances that were sent a couple months ago?
I am grateful Elder Boyd forwards pictures to us from you. We love you so much and are so happy to have you out serving the Lord. Building up his kingdom and the most beautiful place I've ever seen in pictures. Keep up the good work! My heart and prayers are with you and your companion always and also with those missionaries who suffered the attacks in Brussels, that is so hard wrenching. Yet their testimonies that they share on national and international news are powerful and amazing. Keep up the good work!

Pilot Rock of the Canary Islands

I'm doing really good and I'm really enjoying Fuerteventura everyone
in the zone is awesome and in the branch too! I don't have that much
time today to email because we had a zone activity. We went to a a
place like pilot rock it was awesome! Tomorrow we have zone
conferences I'm happy for that! I sent you some pictures it was

Happy Palm Sunday! I would love to know how the people celebrate Easter week where you are. In most prominent Catholic countries, Easter week is filled with rich traditions and a culture of celebrating the final week of the life of Christ.  Our church has always focused more on his life and teachings and resurrection than on his death like other faiths do.
My uncle Joe brought Dina and Trina and Grandmother up to visit for a couple of days. They arrived this afternoon. Us ladies all hiked Table Rock after dinner. They all asked about you and are glad to hear you are well. They said the food there is amazing especially seafood dishes.
I took Malachi to a magic show yesterday, it was really great. All of his music was Christian Rock and at the end he bore testimony of God. How if we just believe in Him we can do all things. It was cool to see a magician bear testimony through his work. His four kids are all involved in the show and his wife was before she lost her battle to cancer a couple of years ago. He also had two beautiful tigers that he has raised for 25 years. One white the twin sister Orange. Super fun.
I am so blessed to know of the Saviors atonement and how I can tap into that great reservoir of hope and strengthening power to make us whole. I am looking forward to studying the gospels specifically about this week in his life. I love you and am so glad you are sharing this message with others.

Water and a Prayer

Hey y'all,
This last week was really good here in Fuerte Ventura. The Members are
awesome and so are the people. The climate here is a lot different
then La Laguna, its super seca here, no green whatsoever. My companion
Elder Boyd is an amazing missionary. He is always complementing me and
helps me with whatever I need. We have some really good goals for this
companionship and I am exited to work hard with unity and being fully
concentrated. I love my mission and I am so thankful to God for the
life that he put before me, and the trials that I have, so that I can
be stronger. This area is a lot different than others, but the field
is white and ready to harvest, and I am glad to be apart of it. We had
a baptism here last Saturday and it was really spiritual. I could
really feel the necessity of baptism right when he came out of the
water. I felt the love of God in my soul, and that even though it's
just water and a prayer, there is no other way that we can enter into
the kingdom of God with out it.

Today, well when you read this, is March 14th, Pi day! Life is short so we must celebrate all the opportunities that we can. At work we are having a pie contest. I made a Samoa cookie pie. We'll see how it tastes tomorrow as I have never made one before.
President Wright and his sweetheart spoke today in our ward for Sacrament. I always love to hear them speak. Such powerful testimonies of the Savior, his atonement and how we can draw strength from it. It was so wonderful to hear a few of their experiences while serving as the mission president in Chile.  Some day dad and I will serve a mission together. Just have to get these kiddos through school!
I was surprised how quickly you transferred on. I am not even sure what your last companions name was. What is your new companions name? Do you two have much in common? Tell me all about the people you are serving. I understand you are down to one bag there. Were you able to bring your camera? Did you choose to replace your iPad or no?  I looked online and the entire island looks like a beautiful resort.  Is the more than one ward there? What is your home like?
This thought keeps echoing through my mind the last several weeks, I seem to see it everywhere. "There is no sin greater than the atonement of Jesus Christ"  This applies to sins we commit, sins that are committed against us, and sins that others commit. Through the repentance process his atonement can heal us. Completely. Perfectly. Entirely. Permanently.  I know he loves us, I know he lives. I know on that third day the tomb was empty. I know that we each can receive personal witness of these truths through earnestly seeking and searching.  I am so grateful that you are  sharing these great truths and your personal testimony with others. I love you, dad loves you. We are so lucky to be your parents. Keep up the good work.
 When we were in Utah last week, Jodi and I went through the church history museum and the was a display of artwork in various mediums that had entered a competition titled "Tell me the stories of Jesus."  I especially love this one in particular where the artist portrays the young savior holding his mothers hand as they walk through a crowded street. His eyes are filled with compassion as his head is turned back looking at a distraught older man sitting on the edge of the street.  You see this pictures displays nicely that the savior was aware. Aware of the need of others and had compassion for them. This is an attribute of Christ that you possess and must always use so you don't lose it. To see others through the saviors eyes is the best perspective to see clearly.

CANARY ISLANDS
Jan. 1, 2009: Est. population, 1,844,000; Members, 3,500; Districts, 3; Branches, 18;percent LDS, .19, or one in 527; Europe Area; Spain Las Palmas Mission.
The Canary Islands, two provinces of Spain in the South Atlantic off the northwestern coast of Africa, are rugged volcanic mountainous islands with rich soil and long beaches where sand from the western Sahara Desert has drifted. Thirteen islands make up the provinces, seven of which are inhabited: Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera, and Hierro.
The first converts baptized in the Canary Islands were Juana Vega Garcia, Francisco Dominguez Pena, his wife, Francisca, and their son, Javier, on 13 June 1979. They were introduced to the Church by Jesus Ramon Gomez Vega, a native of Gran Canaria, who had accepted the gospel while residing in Spain where he was baptized in 1973. He served in the Spain Madrid Mission before returning home to share the gospel with his mother, Juana, and friends, the Pena family.
For the first several months, meetings of the small Church group were held in the Pena home. The first missionaries to the Canary Islands were Elders David L. Gill and Scott C. Jensen of the Spain Seville Mission who arrived 30 September 1979. 
The first branch was organized in Las Palmas on 29 January 1980. The first district, Las Palmas Gran Canarias, was organized 2 October 1984, with eight branches. The second district, Santa Cruz de Tenerife Canaria, was organized 8 August 1989, with six branches. 
The Spain Las Palmas Mission, headquartered on Gran Canaria Island, was created on 1 July 1988 from portions of the Spain Seville and Portugal Porto missions. Marion K. Hamblin was called as president. In the first year of operation, the mission baptized 1,000 converts, and by 1990 was averaging 80 baptisms per month.
President Gordon B. Hinckley stopped in Las Palmas on 13 February 1998 on his way to Nigeria and spoke to 775 members.
The mission experienced a great loss on 18 January 1999 when full-time missionaries Jaarl M. Papenfuss and Joshua M. Prymak were drowned off the coast of Tenerife. A large wave swept the two missionaries off a cliff and into the ocean. One made it to shore but the other, Elder Prymak, was unable to swim to safety. Elder Papenfuss, who witnessed the scene from a safe position on the shore, attempted to save him, but both perished.Three tall sailing ships of Sea Trek 2001, re-enacting the Mormon emigration, spent three days in Las Palmas on 6-8 September before embarking across the Atlantic.
