Fake Investigators :)

Hey mom,
I Love you so much and make sure you tell the girls and Malachi that I love them too! This week has been good but really fast! I miss y'all a lot and I am praying for you every night! The temple experience is awesome and I would like to do grandpa's work here if it would be ok with y'all! I get to email Rick but I need to email Gavin - I will next time! I love you so much and I think about you guys every night! I have been teaching 2 people this week, they are fake investigators but it is good. One girl is Ihnirah and the other is Medeline! I have gone to the park twice since I last talked to you but it is so fun to just talk to people enough to where they can feel the spirit then I can teach them. Everyone here is Catholic and it's actually not bad. I buy candy here but it's different and the Doritos are different but its all good! Today I am going to play soccer and afterwards I will go and get some Dominos!
I Love you all,

Spain Ham

Dear Dad,
Whenever I write you It feels like I'm sending a letter like good 'ol Hawkeye from M.A.S.H. That scar is awesome!!!!! This week has been awesome, and I have had the privilege to give a blessing. His name was Hermano Santiago Rodríguez. He is an awesome guy and he is amazing at soccer. During the blessing, I could feel God going through my arms. I think daily about the Fathers blessing that you had given me, I am trying to be as obedient as I can so I can receive the blessings! I love you dad and I can't wait till Christmas so I can see your Scar!  - Moroni

Happy Birthday Sariah! I love you guys and wish I could write more. I am in a hurry!

Southern accent & gift of tongues

Elder Beal,
Como estate? Yo bien. I am looking forward to your email.  Conference was so wonderful this year. I love the idea of 'ponderizing'.  Since you are 9 hours ahead of us, when do you watch conference? How do you feel your Spanish is coming along? I still haven't packed up your room. Maybe on Friday I will since I have that day off work and it will just be me and Malachi.  The girls will be with the young women at the beach house and dad is doing a motorcycle overnight with some friends from the Stake.  I really like my Pathways BYUI classes. I taught last week, it was really amazing how well that goes when you let the Spirit take over. I wonder a lot of silly things about how you are doing and what it is like there. Silly like did you pack shampoo? Is your card working? Did you get the envelope I sent? Do you need anything? Tell me about your companion. I bet you were super tired yet full of adrenaline when you arrived. Kris printed off a picture of us at the airport that I texted her as a gift to me for my desk. I love looking at the light in your eyes. May they always shine. I love you!
Love,
Mom

I'm glad that the family is doing great! I miss everyone a lot but its easy to forget about it because I'm so busy! I loved the package that I got, Ha Garments, but I loved it! Did you send that letter that I had addressed to Karlita?  Somehow I don't have my gopro stuff just the camera, maybe I didn't pack it? The Spanish is picking up! I whole heartedly believe in the blessing of the gift of tongues! I have gone to the temple twice and its so amazing. I had the opportunity to give a guy a BOM at the park it was so awesome! We talked for like 15 mins  he said that he'd read it! It seems like I never have enough time I love you family!

Touchdown!

Elder Beal,
I remember shouting "Touchdown" when you were younger on the football field.
Today I shout it for another reason. Normally I would be a little skeptic of Google knowing what I want before I ask, but today I consider it a tender mercy of the Lord. When I woke up this morning and looked at my phone Google flights was tracking your flight and told me how many minutes till your plane would land. I didn't even know that was a feature! What a sweet blessing to me. ✈ At this moment you will be stepping onto the land of Spain. I can shout "Touchdown!"

I know you will come to love it. Its history, heritage, people, music, language, & food. I love you. I don't expect you to respond to every email on your prep day. But sending them helps me feel closer to you.
J'taime toujours,
Mom

No Strings Attached

Monday, September 29, 2015 flight scheduled for take-off at 11:18 am.  It is amazing how well Heavenly Father takes care of us and looks after even our simplest desires.  Below is just a sampling of those who came to see him off.  Forgive me for not capturing great pictures of each of the rest of you that were there, Mapels, Brent Pedersen, Karchers, Choates, Lew Devlin and I am probably forgetting someone, truly sorry, but thank you with all my heart for being there on this day and always!

As we watched him board the plane and it taxing further away from us then flying higher and higher into the sky till it was eventually no longer visible to our human view, I experienced the most glorious peace.  He may not be in my view but he is undoubtedly in the view of his Father in Heaven.
As the mission has symbolically cut the apron strings and severed my umbilical cord to Moroni I expected fear, worry and anxiety to be my companions.  This was not the case at all.  Just the opposite would be true for me.  I found peace, hope, love, and joy to be my companion.  I recognized that this came as a result of trusting God 100% no strings attached.
I want to feel that way with all the things in this life that cause me grief, worry, and agony.  I will strive my best  to leave no strings attached as I give over my sins, weaknesses, and doubt to God.  I want to feel that peace in those areas of my life as well and Heavenly Father has allowed me to experience this that I might learn personally that through the Atonement of my loving Savior he can bless me with gifts of peace and hope.

Pies, Ties, & Good-byes!

How great was my joy to have our home once again busting at the seams with friends and family who are so dear to us!  I have never seen so many cars in our culdesac! It really warmed my heart to feel so much love by each of you, thank you for helping us prepare our son ever the past two decades to serve over the next two years as a full-time missionary in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  The ties that you each placed on him both physically and symbolically is a treasure to my heart!

In front of the Stake Center just moments prior to being set apart by Stake President Thompson as a full-time missionary in the Madrid, Spain mission. What a wonderful experience to spend an hour with our Stake President, bearing testimonies and reflecting on our own discipleship.  How lovely are the words humbly, yet with great power are in the blessing from our Father in Heaven to Moroni at this time.  What a marvelous experience! All of our family was there except our oldest and his sweet family who are faithfully and courageously protecting our freedoms while serving in the Army.  Our thoughts and prayers are always with you, Christian, Aleesha and sweetest boys!

Temples

After a summer filled with making great and lasting memories it was the sweetest of blessings to wrap up the summer by attending the temple with our son. This was September 9, 2015 at the Medford, Oregon Temple.  What a choice gift and great responsibility is ours that live so close to the temple.  Moroni was attentive and filled with peace in the temple.  It was lovely to have dear friends and family join us at this sacred ordinance.

The very next day, Thursday, he flew out to Salt Lake City to meet with the Honorary Consul of Spain to complete his Visa process.  What a tender mercy of the Lord that the Consul of Spain had his office at the very same university where Moroni's sweetheart, Karly just began her studies, GO UVU! They were able to spend the weekend touring Temple Square and visiting several other temples.  Of course they had to eat at K dogs and Cafe Rio.  On my birthday, Sept. 14th,  Moroni along with 75 other missionaries had a group interview with the consul, after which Karly shipped him off on the plane back home for a couple more weeks.  Here they are in front of the Payson, Utah Temple where they were able to preform baptisms for the dead.

Mission Reveal

Checking the mail every day....It arrived!  Moroni allowed me to throw him a mission call reveal party so as many as our friends and family that were able to join us could share this exciting moment with us.  So though his call came in the mail earlier in the week on Monday,  he waited until Thursday to open it at the reveal party.  Nervous that he would not have much time to prepare as was his buddy, Gavin's experience, he asked his dad to open up the call and just find out when he was leaving.

So Brett obliged. He decided that he would open the call and quickly cover it then read from the bottom up in hopes to only see when not where he was going.  My role was to cry, not sweet tears quietly rolling down my cheek, oh no that wouldn't do.  I had to have loud wailing accompanied with ugly, snotty, sobs shocking my kids that they were 'greatly astonished even exceedingly" that they laughed out loud at my gut reaction.  Yep, I am that graceful!

Brett shared the date of departure with Moroni to be the 29th of September, 2015. Whew I had some time yet.  Then he sly added with a corner smile of one who knows yet refuses to tell, "I also saw which MTC you will report to."  Of course Moroni wanted to know immediately and yet he wanted to please me by going through with his reveal party, so he asked for hints.

He begged his dad for another clue and thus began the game. This experience was a testimony builder for him as well as us. Brett shared these clues with our family so we could all play along. Only the tips were given at that time, one per day. The parentheses are further explanation that Brett shared at the party after Moroni read his call.

Clues:

Tip #1 -Not Provo Utah
(Immediately he looked up all the MTC's around the world. His dad suggested he place a pushpin in the map for each one then prayerfully remove the pins to see where he felt the Holy Ghost was prompting him. Only Spain remained, Brett coolly said "We'll see".)

Tip #2-There was manny living in this place around 100 years ago, but then emigrated to america.  Within the the last few years though, it was in the top 3 most visited places in the world.(2013)
(My grandfather by marriage his name was Manuel everyone called him Manny his parents and a sibling were born in Spain migrating to California via Hawaii prior to his birth.)

Tip#3-The most popular tower in the world from its beginning, this country can boast of its grandeur.  This country is about the same latitude as Oregon.
(What many people do not know is that the Eiffel Tower was originally planned to be constructed in Barcelona Spain, for the Universal Exposition in 1888, but it was turned down as it was “too expensive and strange”. Instead, Eiffel tried to build the Eiffel Tower in Paris for the Universal Exposition in 1889 and this time the building was approved.)

Tip #4-You will be walking amongst liquid gold and millions of Catholics, but only a handful of Mormons.
(Spain produces 45% of all of the earth’s Olive Oil. That’s quite a claim. The largest Olive Oil producing region is Andalucia. Liquid gold is a common term, and indeed it is.

Population.......47,370,542
Catholics.........42,000,000
Mormons.........52,747)
Living Water
World cake pops

Guests each signed their name to month they guessed he would go.

Guest all placed guesses on the map.

It was wonderful to share this moment surrounded by family and friends, thank you for being a part of our lives!  The video below is of him reading his call at the reveal party.
